operates various community engagement programs to bring ballet to
audiences of all ages and backgrounds.POSITIONSan Francisco Ballet
is seeking a Chief Finance Officer (CFO) who will direct all
aspects of financial management, information technology, and
facilities operations for the organization. The position includes
preparation of all budgets, long-range operating and financial
plans, periodic financial reports, and other internal and external
financial and operating reports. The CFO manages the Finance, IT,
and Facilities Departments and supervises accounting, data
processing, benefits management, and facilities management staff.
This executive serves as a member of the Senior Executive
Management Team and reports directly to the Executive Director.The
CFO is responsible for the financial health and operational
effectiveness of San Francisco Ballet Association, San Francisco
Ballet Endowment Foundation, and other affiliated organizations.
The position requires a strategic financial leader who will provide
sound fiscal management while supporting the artistic vision of the
organization. Working closely with the Executive Director and the
Board of Trustees, the CFO will devise innovative solutions for
financing a premier cultural institution in a competitive
environment.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESFinancial Leadership and
Management
- Directs accurate preparation of all budgets, forecasting,
long-range operating and financial plans, periodic financial
reports and other internal and external financial and operating
reports as required.
- Assures compliance with all regulatory requirements pertaining
to financial operations, taxation, employment, corporate reporting
and other matters; develops systems to comply with corporate
governance policies and regulations.
- Recommends and implements policies to strengthen the financial
management of San Francisco Ballet Association, San Francisco
Ballet Endowment Foundation and other affiliated
organizations.
- Assures that assets of San Francisco Ballet Association and its
affiliates are managed and conserved in accordance with
institutional goals and policies.
- Oversees annual independent audits, tax returns, and regulatory
matters.
- Oversees and manages workers compensation claims, collaborates
with insurance carriers and legal counsel.
- Oversees insurance policies and risk management strategies.
Works closely with departments to ensure adequate coverage, handle
claims, and minimize financial risks.
- Oversees external law firms and attorneys on behalf of the
company. Manages relationships with external lawyers ensuring
effective communication and collaboration.
- Establishes and maintains effective relationships with
financial service providers including independent auditors, banks,
brokers, insurance providers, etc.
- Maintains effective communications with the Chair and Treasurer
of the Board of Trustees, the President of the San Francisco Ballet
Endowment Foundation, the Finance Committee, the Facilities
Committee, Endowment Board, and other Board committees and members
as necessary and appropriate.Information Technology Oversight
- Directs the information technology department, overseeing
strategic planning, cybersecurity, and system implementations.
- Manages relationship with outsourced IT-service provider, IT
vendors, and internal IT staff.
- Ensures proper functioning of systems including Sage Intacct,
Adaptive Insights, and Tessitura.
- Develops and implements IT policies and procedures to support
organizational needs.
- Oversees technology infrastructure planning and
budgeting.Facilities Management
- With Head of Facilities, oversees facilities management
including maintenance, capital improvements, space planning, and
safety protocols for all Ballet properties.
- Ensures compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and
accessibility requirements.
- Develops and implements long-term facilities plans aligned with
organizational goals.Human Resources and Administrative Functions
- With Controller, hires, manages and evaluates accounting and
benefits management staff.
- With Human Resources Director, develops and administers all
employee benefit programs.
- Participates, as required, in the negotiations of collective
bargaining agreements with seven unions and assists in the
administration of those agreements.
- Performs other duties as required by the Executive
Director.Qualifications
DUCATION & CERTIFICATION/CREDENTIALS
- Graduate management degree (MBA or MPA) in Finance or related
field desirable.
- CPA highly desirable.FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES - SKILLS,
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Seven or more years of financial management in the non-profit
sector with increasing levels of responsibility at CFO or Director
of Finance level at organization of comparable size and
complexity.
- Minimum 5 years supervisory experience.
- Experience managing IT operations and facilities management
preferred.
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and
facilities management best practices.
- Strategic understanding of how technology, finance, and
facilities management support the organization's mission and
enhance operational efficiency.
- Extensive experience preparing and analyzing financial
statements, creating budgets, implementing internal controls, and
developing business plans.
- Problem-solving abilities using logic, analysis, and emotional
intelligence to make sound, timely decisions.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills with ability
to present complex financial information clearly to diverse
audiences.
- Strong computer literacy with advanced skills in financial
systems and data analysis.
- Experience working with boards and committees, particularly in
a nonprofit performing arts environment.LEADERSHIP &
