The Associate Director, US Health Economics and Value Demonstration will be responsible for access evidence strategy development and execution, research dissemination and communication to key stakeholders within the assigned therapeutic areas. The incumbent must be a highly motivated, independent self-starter with technical expertise and strategic vision to develop and execute US access evidence strategy. The Associate Director partners closely with global Health Economics Leads, Market Access, Medical Affairs, Managed Markets field teams and other key corporate functions for value creation and communication. This position reports to the Director, US Health Economics and Value Demonstration within the North America Commercial organization. - Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Medical Affairs, Brand, and Market Access and other functions to identify key evidence gaps to secure coverage, reimbursement and continued access to BioMarin products
  • Lead the development and execution of the strategic access evidence plan and timely dissemination of evidence, including, but not limited to, burden of illness studies, health economic models, real world observational studies, patient surveys, post-hoc clinical trial analysis, quality improvement demonstration
  • Lead the development of budget impact model, cost effectiveness model (as necessary), and health economics section of reimbursement dossiers and payer value decks
  • Develop high-quality and high-impact healthcare economic information (HCEI) and tools for use with US population health decision makers
  • Train and support the US Managed Markets team and MSLs on key HEOR evidence and tools
  • Critically evaluate clinical evidence and develop strategy for real world data collection to support the development and evaluation of outcomes based contracting strategies throughout a product's life cycle
  • Contribute to heath technology assessments (HTA) monitoring, impact assessment, and product-specific reviews in relevant therapeutic areas
  • Establish and maintain relationships and partnerships with key external experts and influencers to deliver value messages and technical content
  • Collaborate cross functionally to ensure evidence requirements (clinical, economic, patient reported outcomes) of US payers are incorporated in clinical development programs
  • Stay current on emerging US payer landscape, trends, HEOR/HTA methods - Required Experience/Skills:
    • 5-10 years of US HEOR experience in pharmaceutical industry, consulting, or academic institutions with a track record of success
    • Expertise and launch experience in hemophilia and/or other rare diseases preferred, but not required
    • Deep understanding of product development, competitive landscape, US health system, and the evolving HTA/payer environment for specialty and rare therapies
    • Superior problem-solving skills, including capability of applying previous experience to complex policy issues at both strategic and analytic levels
    • Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration, and influence are required
    • Demonstrated ability to excel and influence in a matrix environment
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, budgets, competing timelines, and rapidly evolving priorities - Education:
      • Advanced degree related to Health Economics and Outcomes Research (MPH, PhD) or Pharmacy degree with Residency/Fellowship in Health Economics preferred - Additional
        • This position is physically located in BioMarin's corporate office in San Rafael, CA with a flexible schedule. Travel up to 15-20%.
