About the Job: The Capital Campaign Manager will have
responsibility for implementing and completing multiple phases of
the California Film Institute---s multi-million fundraising capital
campaign to renovate the Sequoia Theater in Mill Valley, CA.
Reporting to the Director of Development and working closely with
the Executive Director, Deputy Director, other senior leaders, and
members of the Board of Directors, the manager will drive the
development of the campaign's strategy in collaboration with the
executive team, and then support a broad-based fundraising plan
targeting individuals, corporations and foundations to support the
initiative. It is anticipated that this Campaign will be ongoing
over five or more years. About the California Film Institute: CFI
supports its mission to celebrate film as art and education by
presenting the annual Mill Valley Film Festival and DocLands
Documentary Film Festival, exhibiting film year-round at the
non-profit Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center, and building
the next generation of filmmakers and film lovers through CFI
Education. About the Sequoia Capital Campaign: More than twenty
years ago, CFI led an $8.5 million capital campaign to restore the
Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center. With three screens and
state-of-the-art presentation, the Smith Rafael Film Center has
become a vital part of the lively Bay Area film scene serving
125,000 patrons annually. CFI has proven its ability not only to
successfully carry out the capital campaign and the stunning
renovation and upgrading of the theater but has maintained and
cared for this art deco gem over the long term. Now CFI has plans
to broaden its mission and create the next cultural jewel in Marin
with the renovation of the historic Sequoia Theater in downtown
Mill Valley. CFI will do much more than preserve the Sequoia
Theater; we will transform it into a state-of-the art film center
and community gathering place unsurpassed in Southern Marin,
offering residents access to high quality independent and
international film, conversation, and education in a world-class

Responsibilities: Working closely with the Development Director and
Executive Director, participate in the development and execution of
a multifaceted capital campaign that will support the restoration
and redevelopment project of the Sequoia Theater, managing all
stages of the campaign from pre-public launch through completion of
each sequential phase of the campaign. -- Create details on key
campaign strategies and tactics, timeline, roles, desired outcomes
and budget. Monitor and adjust as needed. -- Communicate the plan
to all necessary stakeholders and support their successful
execution of tasks. This includes the staff, CFI board, volunteers
and others. -- Create and manage a cultivation, solicitation and
stewardship program for major donors - both individual and
institutional - that supports the work of staff, board and
volunteers. Includes tracking all assigned prospects, preparing
materials for donor meetings, events, and conversations, tracking
follow-up, and ensuring timely process in all steps of the
campaign. -- Conduct a review and assessment of the current donor
base to identify donor prospects for the campaign using
wealth-screening tools. -- Leverage above research to create
coordinated strategies to optimize donor giving to the capital
campaign. -- Work collaboratively with the Development Director to
cultivate identified institutional prospects in order to complete
solicitations and/or prepare and submit grant proposals. -- Conduct
and/or coordinate additional research as needed to identify
necessary prospects for the campaign. -- Maintain the campaign Case
for Support based on findings from the feasibility assessment to be
used as basis for all campaign communications. -- Coordinate the
creation of campaign promotional materials including print,
digital, social and video versions for varying audiences. -- With
support from the marketing and publicity teams, coordinate external
and internal communications regarding the campaign leveraging
existing activities and communications. -- Coordinate
identification and recruitment of volunteer campaign leadership and
support them and fundraising counsel in all their fundraising
related activity. Keep them informed with regular updates and
reports to ensure momentum of the campaign. -- Coordinate and
support committee meetings including agenda creation, preparing all
necessary materials, setting meeting dates and reminders and
taking/distributing notes. Attend committee meetings and ensure
timely follow-up of assigned tasks during those meetings. --
Directly manage a portfolio of select donor prospects to cultivate
and/or solicit gifts. The portfolio will be developed in
coordination with the portfolios of the Executive Director,
Development Director, and Board of Directors. -- Manage all
campaign gift correspondence, including timely acknowledgments,
pledge payment reminders, pledge agreements and preparing and
submitting reports to donors and those required by granting
foundations and institutions. -- Help define strategy and then
execute the donor recognition and naming program. -- With support
from the events team, coordinate campaign related cultivation and
engagement events. -- Provide monthly reports on the status of the
campaign for board, cabinet, CFI staff and counsel including major
activities, and cumulative giving and pipeline status. -- In latter
stages of the campaign, plan and execute the community campaign
phase. Ideal Experience : Experience with capital campaign
management and major gifts management. Expertise and high-level
ability with fundraising information systems to track donor
activity. Excellent customer management and proven communication
skills. Experience interacting with donor prospects and high-level
volunteer leaders. Overall project management experience including
managing complex tasks in a timely manner, taking initiative, and
strong attention to detail. Working Conditions: Candidate must be
able to work in an in-office environment in San Rafael, CA,
although hybrid office-remote work is permitted. Candidates should
show a willingness to attend select evening/weekend programming
activities and the full duration of film festivals in order to
cultivate/steward key donors and prospects. Candidates should also
be able to travel to meet with donors throughout the San Francisco
Bay Area. Proof of completed COVID-19 vaccination is currently
