To:
This position will report to the Regional HR Manager
(West).Location:This position will be based out of the Bay Area,
and must have the ability to drive to locations in San Jose, San
Francisco and Fremont. Occasional travel to Southern California or
other western states may be required.The Employee Relations Manager
will assist with employee relations investigations on behalf of the
company at multiple accounts in the Bay
Area.Duties/Responsibilities:
- Works with the Regional HR Manager and HR A &G (when
applicable) to assist in onsite investigations involving employees,
making disciplinary action recommendations as necessary.
- Utilize investigative techniques with employees and managers to
complete thorough investigations.
- Have the ability to summarize complex issues and investigations
and make recommendations to Regional HR utilizing all Compass
policies and Federal & California State laws.
- In conjunction with Regional HR, Partners with client HR in the
event that it is necessary.
- Researches and explains laws and legal affairs concerning
employment to managers, supervisors, and employees.
- Ensure investigations are completed with recommendations made
for next steps.
- Follow up with management at accounts on action planning and
training as necessary as an outcome of the investigation.
- Advises and trains managers and supervisors in best employee
relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor problems
and employee grievances. Develops further training as needed.
- Must have the ability to know when to escalate issues and
collaborate in recommendations for disciplinary actions.
- Works in conjunction with Labor Relations Management to ensure
collective bargaining agreement is followed and Union grievances
are mitigated to the extent possible at Unionized accounts.
- Must be resourceful, with the ability to navigate through a
large corporation while understanding applicable policies,
procedures, and approval processes.
- Occasional HR /Safety related project management as
assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.Required
Skills/Abilities:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Thorough understanding of California employment laws, as well
as and Federal employment laws.
- Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate
sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, local City &
State ordinances, and policies.
- Thorough understanding of dispute resolution.
- Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in
controversial and/or confrontational situations.
- Must be able to multi-task effectively, managing multiple
issues and projects as assigned.Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field
preferred.
- Four years of professional human resource administration,
including two years in employee relations preferred.
- Prior experience in HR within hospitality, retail, or food &
beverage industry is preferred.
- Prior experience working in a Unionized environment.
- California experience in HR is required.
- Bilingual in Spanish and/or Chinese is preferred.
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
