The Medical Assistant will perform a wide range of duties in the medical office. Tasks primarily (although not limited to) involve assisting in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a Physician, Physician Assistant and/or Family Nurse Practitioner.The Medical Assistant will have direct contact with patients and work closely with the front office staff. Medical Assistant reports to MA Supervisor and is also under the direction of the Clinic Director.

Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
Drapes patients with covering and positions instruments and equipment.
Hands instruments and materials to doctor as directed.
Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
Inventories and orders medical supplies and materials.
Operates electrocardiograph (EKG), and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic test or calls medical facility or department to schedule patients for tests.
Gives injections or treatments, and performs routine laboratory tests.
Keys data into computer to maintain office and patient records.
Clean and disinfect operatory in accordance with department's policy and OSHA guidelines.
Sterilize and disinfect instruments in accordance with department policy and OSHA guidelines.
Follow policy and procedures including universal precautions as defined by OSHA's guidelines on Bloodborne Pathogens and Hazardous Materials standards.
Practice good people skills to maintain good public relations with patients and with fellow co-workers.
Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance to department policy and HIPAA guidelines.
Attend and participate in required meetings, training and educational programs.
Performs administrative responsibilities, including checking eligibility, verifying demographics, assisting patients with filling out necessary paperwork, and making up follow-up appointments.
Perform other related work as assigned.
Care Team responsibilities as outlined in the Care Team Patient Center Medical Home Procedures.Qualifications:Must have a valid Medical Assistant certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant Educational program.
California Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification desired but not required.
Must have current CPR certification.
Minimum of 6-12 months of work experience preferred but will consider new graduates from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Bilingual English/Spanish required.
Prior experience working in community health-care clinic environment a plus.
Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must possess strong interpersonal skills.
Must have ability to multitask in fast paced health-care clinic environment.
Experience with NextGen Electronic Health Records software a plus.Must be able to communicate effectively in English, verbally and written.
Ability to read English/Spanish and comprehend medical information.
Must be able to work flexible hours as needed, evenings or weekends if necessary.
