Job DescriptionThe Pet Emergency and Specialty Center of Marin (www.pescm.com) is looking for Full Time Veterinary Assistants to join our emergency department. We have immediate openings for swing, overnight, and weekend shifts. These are either 4-10 hour or 3-12 hour shifts and are eligible for weekend and overnight differentials. These shifts are perfect for anyone who has been working as an assistant in GP and are ready to take their career to the next level!About PESCM: PESCM, located in San Rafael, is the only 24/7 emergency and specialty practice in Marin County. We continue to see record breaking cases in all departments: Internal Medicine, Oncology, Surgery, Neurology, Urgent Care, Emergency, and Critical Care. Our mission is to serve pets and people by continually pushing to improve our medicine, our service, our communication, and ourselves. PESCM utilizes the cloud-based management software system, Ezyvet, which integrates with an iPad accessible patient treatment sheet software, Smartflow, for a paperless billing system so you can focus on what you do best, patient care!Why PESCM: PESCM celebrates core values such as respect, kindness, trust, appreciation, compassion, and dedication. Veterinary Technicians at PESCM are responsible for a variety of tasks related to customer service and patient care within the veterinary practice. In addition to veterinary technician skills such as patient restraint, administering medications, IV catheter placement, and phlebotomy, assistants in the Emergency Department will have the opportunity to learn how to:

  • Set up CRIs and calculate medical math
  • Place indwelling urinary catheters
  • Place jugular catheters
  • Provide quality, compassionate care for hospitalized patients
  • Prepare and administer transfusions: Blood, Plasma, Albumin
  • Assist in surgeries and other sedated procedures
  • Maintain accurate treatment sheets
  • Take radiographs and obtain and prepare various blood samples for diagnostic testing
  • Use of mechanical ventilators for anesthesia
  • Provide client education on a wide range of at home careAbout You:
    • Experience in a veterinary setting is required
    • Comprehensive understanding of normal vital and laboratory parameters
    • Proficiency in processing basic laboratory specimens
    • Introductory knowledge of anatomy and physiology
    • Ability to take direction from a variety of staff members
    • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and commitment to develop long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and community
    • Positive outlook and ability to work well in a collaborative environment.
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills are required, and the ability to deliver exceptional client service is expected.
