Position Summary:

One Circle Foundation (OCF), a national 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in San Rafael, CA, seeks a dynamic Executive Director (ED) with a deep commitment to youth development and a proven record of organizational leadership in a non-profit setting. With the retirement of OCF’s long-time Executive Director in 2020, we are looking for an ED who can lead our national organization into exceptional performance through the next decade. The ED will partner with the Board of Directors, staff, trainers, customers, constituents, partners, vendors and allies to lead the organization to achieve the mission of OCF. The ED will provide vision and strategic direction to the organization, develop and support staff, oversee and execute operational excellence, and ensure and promote OCF’s reputation and growth. Because we are a small, yet mighty organization, the ED is responsible for “wearing many hats” including planning, organizing, and directing the organization’s operations and programs.

Established in 1997, One Circle Foundation promotes resiliency in children and youth, families, adults, and communities by offering circle program models that create, restore, and sustain healthy relationships. One Circle Foundation recognizes that healthy relationships are the core element to a healthy individual, family, society, and world. We train, equip and support service providers across all youth sectors in the United States and internationally to deliver state of the art, best practice approaches, through manual-guided curricula for youth-serving programs. We envision a circle for every child or adolescent. Our facilitated group programs are strengths-based, trauma-informed and gender responsive and expansive. Girls Circle® is an evidence-based program that has been shown to reduce court-involvement in adolescent girls. The Council for Boys and Young Men® has been shown to increase school engagement for young men. Additional trainings build facilitator skills to more effectively respond to the needs of diverse youth. The programs integrate evidenced-based practices such as motivational interviewing and social emotional learning with equity and inclusion, cross-cultural traditions and a foundation of caring relationships.

Executive Director Job Responsibilities:

Leadership and People Lead the agency’s strategic planning process and implement initiatives; and work with staff to execute the mission by supporting their work, their efforts and their purpose.

Ensure high quality program planning, development, performance, and evaluation that meets funder, customer and Board of Director expectations to sustain and grow OCF’s programs

Create a productive, supportive, safe, professional and ethical environment for staff and volunteers aligned with OCF’s core values and in accordance with all appropriate legal and regulatory requirements

Develop and implement strong local and national outreach initiatives for business development, funding raising and program marketing

The Board Communicate effectively with the Board and provide, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions

Prepare proposed annual budget for approval and submit monthly/annual financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.

Serve as direct liaison between the Board of Directors and OCF staff ensuring that communication between the Board and staff is productive, open and clear

Provide updates to the Board about staffing, personnel development and oversight that directly affects the operations and success of OCF

Submit updates and create organizational policies for adoption by the Board

Operational Excellence Use latitude to work with the staff to modify program content and offerings to meet changing world conditions and customer needs while preserving the basic framework and general principles of One Circle Foundation’s Models

Develop and execute an operational plan incorporating goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction of the organization which meets the expectations of its clients, Board of Directors, and Funders

Oversee implementation of human resources policies, procedures, and practices that support our culture and core values

Recruit, support and retain a diverse and qualified staff

Provide training, direction, support and resources to staff and contractors to assure that each is set up for success and so that they deliver programs with efficacy and efficiency

Seek to build and strengthen staff capacities for an optimal work environment and to strengthen the efforts toward our mission

Manage OCF in a fiscally responsible manner demonstrating financial sustainability and accountability that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintains the organization in a positive financial position.

Serve as the Chief Business Development and Fundraising Officer by identifying and obtaining new revenue streams and maximizing revenue from existing contracts and relationships

Negotiate and implement contracts on behalf of OCF, ensuring that its legal and financial interests are adequately protected and ensuring compliance with all terms and conditions of contracts

Oversee the implementation of marketing and outreach efforts

Maintain compliance with laws and regulations pertaining to OCF’s activities, functions, and the covenants and conditions encompassed in funds awarded to it

Education, Experience, and Other Qualifications:

The ideal candidate has: M.A. or M.S. Degree in Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Social Work, Education, or related field preferred

5 or more years of non-profit experience at a leadership level with experience in one or more functional areas such as program management, fiscal affairs, human resources, marketing and/or business development.

Strong business acumen and ability to be hands-on as needed

Experience in a comparable non-profit organization preferred

Experience working effectively with nonprofit boards of directors and/or other advisory bodies

Strong relationship skills and ability to harness and support multiple relationships simultaneously with office, satellite and long-distance staff and independent contractors

Outstanding communication skills including written and oral

Ability to communicate a genuine passion for our work in a compelling and authentic manner to multiple audiences

High degree of emotional intelligence and personal insight with a commitment to continuous feedback, learning and a team-oriented approach

Experience working with diverse and/or marginalized or challenged communities including communities of color, low-income and/or immigrant communities, LGBTQ+ youth, court-involved youth, foster youth, disengaged and at-promise youth and families preferred

Familiarity with and appreciation for adults working in systems of care in education, juvenile justice, child services, mental health, public health, community programs, legal advocacy

Demonstrated ability to make strategic decisions in complex or fast-paced situations

Ability to build and promote an environment of equity, inclusion, a gender-expansive and trauma-informed lens and psychological safety

Work Hours & Benefits Full-time, exempt salaried position
