SUMMARY: The Buyer Plannerreports to the Supply Chain Manager and w orks closely with the department manager to lead projects related to outsourcing, production schedule optimization and product supply-smoothing. The Buyer Planner m anages purchases for assigned categories.This position works with cross-functional partners to ensure timely delivery of components at the lowest landed cost.This person tracks performance, reports on key department KPI's, and collaborates with team members and external partners on solutions. They work cross-departmentally on initiatives such as vendor qualification, developing new sourcing opportunities, and supporting product launch activities. They will encourage and reinforce company values and culture within the department. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Procurement Work with the team and suppliers to create supply agreements and contracts to ensure an uninterrupted supply of materials while maintaining targeted inventory turn KPI goals. Analyze sales trends regularly, and adjust supply to maintain targeted inventory levels. Optimize the purchasing dollar by implementing negotiation strategies, volume discounting, and multi-source opportunities on key componentry and ingredient commodities to achieve COGS KPI goal. Create and own the supplier relationship by proactively managing activities to ensure successful results, and by measuring supplier performance. Continuously identify areas of process improvement and engage supplier and other team members to build, implement and maintain solutions. Work closely with the department manager on qualifying new outsourced manufacturing partners. Be part of team to continuously improve ERP system accuracy, drive activity utilizing system tools, and develop new functionality in partnership with our in-house ERP specialist. Conduct commodity and industry research to keep the organization informed and positioned for potential supply shortages and strategies to mitigate; and supply advantages on the horizon. Ability to use statistical analysis to identify proper Safety Stock Values, Economic Order Quantities, seasonal trends, etc. Planning Participate in the scheduling of outsourced manufacturing activity, including the scheduling of consigned goods deliveries per manufacturing schedule requirements. Partner with the Master Production Scheduler to smooth/level-load the weekly & daily production schedule and infuse new best practices. Ensure product supply is in line with product demand for achievement of customer order fill rate KPI. Collaborate with the Production Team to analyze run rates and find areas of opportunity to schedule optimum results. Anticipate and drive preparation for seasonal product demand, and new product launch support. Review monthly forecast vs. actual performance and provide ongoing constructive feedback to SF&OP team. Partner with cross-departmental teams on sku discontinuation activity. Other Collaborate with the department manager and the I.T. department to onboard new MRP functionality. Create and maintain department SOP's and a cross-training calendar to drive mastery of department SOP's. Support the Company's conservation efforts by searching for eco-friendly options for materials, sourcing locations, transportation, etc. Establish and present monthly reports based upon key metrics within the department. Responsible for special projects as directed by the department manager. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in business or closely related field. Additional years of related experience may be considered in absence of a degree. Minimum 3+ years related experience. Knowledge of principles and practices of supply chain and production planning. Working knowledge of LEAN and/or Six Sigma Principles. APICS Certification desirable but not necessary. Experience working in a manufacturing environment and with contract manufacturers. Knowledge of Excel & ERP Systems (NetSuite preferred). Experience in the CPG industry is highly preferred.
