Public Works at ABOUT THE POSITIONThe Department of Public Works
currently has one vacancy for the position of Civil Engineer and is
looking to hire a dedicated licensed professional to join our team
as a project lead and working supervisor within the Engineering
Division.The Civil Engineer is the first level of the professional
engineer series and will take an active role as a project manager
of complex civil engineering projects. As a project manager, the
Civil Engineer would be tasked with delivering multiple individual
projects concurrently, overseeing project budgets, coordinating
with different stakeholder groups, preparing and presenting project
updates, and providing technical direction to both in-house staff
and consultants. Depending on staffing levels, the Civil Engineer
may also be tasked with supervision of in-house staff Engineers
I/II, including performance management, coaching and staff
development. Based on the needs of the Department, Civil Engineers
may be periodically reassigned or rotated to other major programs.
Some work duties for this position can be performed remotely, and
hybrid in-office / telework options may be discussed at time of
hire. However, please note that this position requires that staff
be able to report to County facilities as needed. ABOUT YOUThe
highly qualified candidate has registration as a professional Civil
Engineer and experience successfully managing complex civil
engineering projects including managing project resources, staff
and consultants to deliver projects on schedule and on budget. They
are able to, at a very high level of efficiency and accuracy,
manage multiple contracts, projects and personnel items. The ideal
candidate provides clear interpretation of civil engineering
regulations and policies and maintains successful working
relationships with governmental agencies, members of the public,
consultants and contractors. They have strong writing skills with
experience preparing a variety of contracts, correspondences,
technical reports, staff reports, and project recommendations. They
have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a
variety of levels in the department, thrive in a team environment,
and have strong leadership skills. In addition, the ideal candidate
will be able to foster collaboration, motivate staff, further
develop staff knowledge and strengthen employee performance. We
