Read on to find out more about this opportunity:DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS MISSION STATEMENT:Provide the community with quality services, maintain and improve our public infrastructures and facilities, and support the preservation of Marin's unsurpassed beauty.ABOUT THE POSITION:Associate Civil Engineers perform a variety of professional civil engineering work and serve as working supervisors or project leaders within an area of assignment. The Associate Civil Engineer takes an active role in performance management, coaching and staff/team development. The current openings are as follows:Engineering Assignment:Within the Engineering Division, the Associate Civil Engineer (ACE) will serve as project leader and working supervisor for up to five in-house technical employees on assignments requiring considerable professional knowledge of engineering design principles for roadway and other County infrastructure projects. The ACE is responsible for ensuring that the division is using proper design principles, construction codes, National and State accepted standards, accessibility requirements, and will also provide review oversight and quality control for work being produced. The ACE may also act as a project manager to solicit, contract with, and manage consultants in the design and preparation of contract documents for Civil Engineering projects. Additionally, the ACE will be asked to represent the department at public meetings, sometimes including public presentations for various stakeholders, requiring in-depth understanding of technical principals and sound decision making.Land Development Assignment:Within the Land Development Division, the Associate Civil Engineer (ACE) will manage and review the day-to-day operations of the division including review and approval of trip transportation, film, creek, grading, building and encroachment permits. The ACE will serve as a project leader or working supervisor for six to seven employees on assignments requiring considerable professional knowledge of design principles, construction codes and regulations including CEQA/NEPA, NPDES and accessibility requirements, and as an engineer reviewing complex plans requiring highly technical engineering analyses. The ACE regularly meets with the public to positively resolve concerns and provide information.ABOUT YOU:Our Highly Qualified Candidate: The ideal candidate will have strong leadership qualities, foster teamwork and a positive work environment. The candidate is technically knowledgeable and experienced in the principles and practices of civil engineering and engineering related to the area of assignment, public works design, municipal codes and construction methods. In addition, the ideal candidate possesses specialized training or experience working on and managing projects directly related to the area of assignment. They will be an effective communicator, both orally and in writing, and be able to represent the County in meetings and presentations to various groups, including community groups, regulatory and other governmental agencies, and the general public. The ideal candidate is customer focused and interpersonally effective in dealing with staff, other county departments, engineers, contractors and the public and in coordinating with other agencies when necessary. The ideal candidate can analyze and evaluate alternatives, make sound recommendations and prepare effective technical staff reports.
