The Pet Emergency and Specialty Center of Marin ( is looking for an experienced Full Time Veterinary Technician to join our Oncology Department. $5,000 signing bonusAbout PESCM: PESCM, located in San Rafael, is the only 24/7 emergency and specialty practice in Marin County. We continue to see record breaking cases in all departments: Internal Medicine, Oncology, Surgery, Neurology, Urgent Care, Emergency, and Critical Care. Veterinary Technicians at PESCM are responsible for a variety of tasks related to customer service and patient care within the veterinary practice. In addition to veterinary technician skills such as patient restraint, administering medications, IV catheter placement, and phlebotomy, technicians in the Oncology department will be responsible for the following:Overseeing appointments and managing clients throughout their visitParticipating with the Oncologists in-patient assessment, diagnostics, treatments, and proceduresObtaining and processing laboratory samples such as blood, urine, free fluid, and fine needle aspiratesUtilizing different modalities of imaging for patient and procedural assessment.Executing, monitoring, and recovering all assigned sedation and anesthetic eventsProviding empathy, comfort, and unparalleled nursing care to all patients Being a strong patient advocate during the patient's hospitalizationMaintaining all equipment on a per-use basis ensuring the safety and best practice care of all patientsAdvanced knowledge along with preparation and administration of various chemotherapeutic agentsProviding extensive client communication and education on various oncology disease processesAbility to work occasional holidays and weekends, and OT as needed About you:Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital setting required. Strong communication skills, verbal and written; organizational skills; proactive thinking and a positive attitude are also a mustAccuracy in calculating and delivering anesthetic agents, fluids, and CRIsProficiency in record keeping related to medical procedures including daily treatments administered, patient status, procedures completed, supplies used, and anesthetic recordsReview and understanding of all medical records pertinent to patient careComprehensive understanding and experience with anesthetic monitoring is requiredProficiency in processing basic laboratory specimens and working knowledge of radiographic techniques is requiredRVT, or VTS preferred but not required with right candidatesAbility to work in a highly collaborative environment and commitment to develop long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and community is required.Positive outlook and ability to work well in a collaborative environment.Excellent communication and organizational skills are required, and the ability to deliver exceptional client service is expectedHonesty, integrity and a desire to learn and have fun!Benefits of working with usWe offer desirable alternative work schedules, a competitive bay area wage and comprehensive benefits plan to include medical/dental, 401k, paid time off, scrub allowance, generous Pet Benefit Plan, Continued Education opportunities, and Commuter benefit, as most of our staff travel from outside of Marin County, often passing other specialty practices!PESCM is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
